Usability research combines user observation, task analysis and other feedback methods to gain an understanding of user behaviors, needs and motivations.
Usability testing informs how you think about the services you provide from the perspective of your customer and to better design the ways in which you want to provide those services.
Usability tasks may be tailored to specific types of users or use cases and results are analyzed to determine the best option for each category. Questions may include: If we change the order of a list of options or use different language to describe them, do customers choose differently? Can users quickly understand how to best accomplish a specific task? How much explanation works best in specific situations?

BEST PRACTICES REVIEW
If you’re just getting started with usability, have a limited budget, or sense your app is starting to feel dated, then a Best Practices Review is a great place to start. We offer a complete review of your application, documentation, and any available reports or logs, and identify any quick fixes or “low hanging fruit” that will be cost-effective to update. This might be all you need or the beginning of a plan of action for more in-depth analysis.
Remote usability is a cost-effective way to test out specific scenarios with your customers. Remote usability is a great fit when you have a few specific questions to answer that would benefit greatly from user feedback yet doesn’t require a comprehensive test suite typically associated with in-person, lab-based usability testing. In addition, with remote usability, you have the advantage of evaluating how your systems are used in circumstances similar to how they are used on an everyday basis.
Sometimes the best way to understand your customers and how they use your systems is to sit down with them one-on-one and experiment with different scenarios to see what works and what doesn’t work. A lab setting is a more formal approach to usability and is a great way to pick up on non-verbal cues which can be hard to spot with remote interviews. We often recommend this approach when an application is undergoing a significant update to accommodate new product offerings or new functionality.
When your customers spend too much time to complete a task, customer satisfaction is negatively impacted and your costs to handle the task are higher. It is a good idea to regularly review applications — even when they are considered high-performing — to uncover new opportunities to improve experience and continue to improve key metrics, like resolution rates and time to service.
For example, a large financial services provider saw a planned application migration as an opportunity for Versay to provide a Best Practices Review, which included a basic analysis of their existing call flows, spot testing of speech recognition performance, and a review of application prompt wording. The Versay Report summarized where things looked good and highlighted areas to explore for potentially even better performance. The engagement was complete in less than ten days, with minimal impact to operations and IT management staff. While we took a close look at the application from our unique perspective, day-to-day business continued uninterrupted.
The client scheduled changes recommended in the Report and the overall task completion rate, the primary measure of success for this application, increased by approximately 3% while average handle time decreased as well. The client saved over $1 million in the first year alone.
